Seriously, mind is seriously blown here. It weighs 88lbs! Detune to 200hp and build a ToyBurIon competitor!

Hmmmm, is it naturally aspirated? Or hella boosted?

"Dude holding entire engine" pics always put me in mind of the Crosley CoBra:

I wonder what the hp limits of a sheet-metal engine with modern tech would be? A little laser sintering, a little selective heat treatment, computer flow-mapped to fix cooling - it'd be rather neat.

Turbo. I'm more impressed with the size and weight than anything else. Imagine a 100lb motor behind the front wheels and powering the rears making 200hp?

I'd imagine that it's made of materials too exotic for anything Toyubaru-priced to be that light and efficient. But it's a mightily impressive engine!

I really hope that you're wrong. I feel like something like this will be a gamechanger for the auto industry. Right now its for their ZEOD race car, but still really exciting.

Is it just me, or does that looked shopped? Especially the exaggerated shadow where his tie should be.

Like I posted over on Jalopnik, I want this detuned a bit for reliability in the IDX Nismo with three pedals please

If you want to detune the engine, do it after you put two of these engines together.

650 HP I-6, bitches.

YES.

That's what I thought of when I first saw the picture. Glob help it if it has the same lifespan of a CoBra, though.

I'm imagining a chunky boosted motorbike engine. But yes, much fun can be had with it.

It won't happen in 6 months (this is a bespoke racing engine, after all), but there's no reason why the tech won't eventually make its way onto road cars as maybe a 250bhp version of this weighing 100lbs.

I don't know about that. BMW already sold magnesium filled block engines, and the LS7 had sodium filled valves and titanium rods.

With that said though, yeah a for-the-street production version would totally not be putting out those numbers. I suspect they did it using lots of boost and motorcycle level RPMs. Some of that would undoubtedly get lost so they can slap a 10/100k warrenty on it.

I'm skeptical the reliability and emission levels of the engine. After all, there's a reason BMW doesn't put the S1000RR motor in a car...

Fair enough. I still feel like something like this will trickle down into production cars.

Absolutely. They wouldn't spend the time and money R&Ding it otherwise.
